Today I was the guest speaker for the men’s ministry breakfast. 40 or so men get together every month (and then weekly in small groups) and share triumphs and difficulties, blessings and prayer requests and what a honor it was to be with them for the morning. Essentially I gave my testimony also a message on "worship" and the fact that it is a life style and not just 15 minutes before the sermon and where I see God leading the worship arts ministry at Christ Church.
Much laughter and tears were shed and if I blessed them half as much as they blessed me I would be amazed! That’s the fun part about giving talks/messages/sermons. How much a strong God filled congregation actually gives back to the one talking, its increasable.
I thanked them for letting me in to the meeting despite the fact that I do not own any power tools or a truck and where plaid pants occasionally and drive a Volkswagen...they laughed...I shared that worship is the act of bowing and serving and that men’s ministry is a time of worship, a time to hear from God and respond. I shared how part of my job as worship pastor/director is to help get across the message that worship takes many forms and many of them are "worship leaders" and they don’t know it. Many of these men lead teams of other men who help the sick and hurting in the community. They clean gutters and rake leaves and do a free car clinic for single moms once every few months and this is worship.
I'm so thankful that worship is more creative then just music....it makes my job more interesting!
