Ever been to a really passionate baptism? Like a baptism where people are cheering and people respond to the testimonies with tears, laughter, joy and excitement? Well I never had been. In fact most baptisms I know of were done in a Sunday morning service and seen by the congregation and pastoral staff always like a small announcement that you pass over quickly. In fact I can never recall a planning meeting where people were like YES! A BAPTISM!
Until last Sunday that had been the norm and only experience I have had with baptisms. On Sunday afternoon Christ Church gathered at the Local Park and beach and had a service of celebration. A service where 17 individuals were baptized and over 300 showed up just to encourage and cheer those who where being baptized on! To celebrate with them new life! And keep in mind this was not a normal morning service this was "extra" yet this did not keep people at home. And this was in the midst of 4 morning services, a wedding and an evening service!
Wow what a powerful experience to hear cheers and encouragement after coming up out of the water, I can’t even imagine what those who were baptized felt. Now that’s community!
