Sacred Space

Thank you for the prayers, my father’s surgery went very well (on his back), now its recovery time... Lisa's dad, uncle and grandfather I will update you on, as we know more...

I spend a lot of time in churches...I'm attracted to sacred spaces. Spaces that make you stop and pause catch your breath, holy, set apart spaces. In New England there are plenty to churches (a lot of old buildings) that have that since of sacred. Those kinds of spaces where you can see how people have worshiped God for 100's of years. The types of buildings where every little element of the building is planned and connected. Where nothing is just "put" in the sanctuary. Every item has a specific purpose, place and intention to it. Part of me (and my generation) probably longs for this ancient sacred feel as many grew up without it.

Last night we had a tech clean out party. We cleaned out our sacred space, and fixed and cleaned the tools (i.e. microphones and ect) used in our worship to God. It was a wonderful time, filled with laughter, food and fun and a lot was accomplished. But here is the question that has been on my mind and here is where I want to grow. How do we remember that out 7-year-old sanctuary is sacred space? Space set apart? How do we remember the they mics and cords and music stands are not merely mics and cords and music stands but tools used in the worship of God. How do we remember and embrace our freedom in Christ but not at the expense of losing the concept of sacred space? What are then the implications if we realize these things to be true?
