So last week I spoke at the chapel of a private school in the area. It was one of my first dives into speaking outside of Origins (Inter varsity at URI) or Christ Church. Initially I had understood these students to be middle schoolers however upon arrival I found out that it was in fact 5-8th grade. Which to be honest with you is not my strongest demographic in terms of my skill set to minister to! such a wide span between 5th and 8th grade. Some are playing with legos....others dating each other....
We had a great time together singing songs and I spoke on what worship is.... There were some amazing and hysterical moments a favorite: me telling the student out loud who was running PowerPoint when to change slides right in the middle of songs. Another priceless moment: the fact that they did not have a microphone other then one essentially attached to a podium and so forth...but what blew me away was this. The head master asked the students who I was when he introduced me, and a good group of them raised their hands....Yet I would not have been able to name a single one....
I think sometimes in ministry we feel unsupported. We feel that we are not making an impact. We feel nameless.. and that the "masses" are not changed or don't grow by our teaching.but the truth is many people are blessed by what we do. God is glorified by what we do. And the scary part a whole bunch of people (including middle schoolers in Rhode Island) are watching. And they know your first and last name and where you work, went to seminary, your title and when you started at the church.....so beware...we always making differences reguardless of if we know it or not!
